National Plant Operators Registration Scheme – Centre – Bury, Greater Manchester
The National Plant Operators Registration Scheme, or NPORS as it is more commonly known, is an excellent alternative card scheme to the CPCS.
Failsworth Training Services were one of only 21 founder members when the scheme launched in October 1992 and it is still going strong today with over 1000 members.
NPORS is a HSE Approved Accrediting Body
The Health and Safety Executive (HSE) recognise NPORS as a competent organisation to accredit, monitor and train Instructors/Training Providers to deliver Operator training and testing. Recognition by the HSE is intended to help set and maintain professional training standards, helping employers select the training organisations who offer a good standard of training.
An NPORS card is much more flexible than other schemes, giving you the ability to:
- Include attachments – E.g. Telescopic Handler – with Bucket attachment.
- Restrict the card for Operational reasons – E.g. 180 Excavator – restricted to front bucket use only.
- Restrict the card for Commercial reasons – E.g. Restricted for use on A Company Ltd sites only.
This is where NPORS really comes into its own. The variety of categories available is unrivalled.
Sure, they offer the “normal” categories – Excavators, Dumpers, Rollers, Lift Trucks etc but they also have a lot of other courses that other schemes do not.
These include Slinging and Lifting with Excavator, Vehicle Banksman (Traffic Marshall), Quick Hitch (Safety or Awareness), Cable Avoidance Tool (CAT and Genny) and Abrasive Wheel.
Failsworth Training are also leaders in Accredited courses for specific tools E.g. Hand Held Disc Cutter (AKA Stihl Saw), Floor Saw and Vibratory Rammer (AKA Wacker)
NPORS Training is recommended at our purpose built Training Centre in Bury, Greater Manchester where we have the perfect environment and facilities for you to learn.
Failsworth Training can offer full Novice Training Courses with NPORS assessments at the end for candidates with no previous experience.
We also offer bespoke courses for semi experienced operators or those that may have used the machine in a different capacity E.g. A 360 Excavator operator who has only used the machine in a scrap yard with a grab attachment.
Experienced Worker Assessment – EWA
Alternatively, if you or your operators are experienced, an Experienced Worker Assessment is available.
These can again be at our Bury HQ or on your own site. For the latter, your site must meet NPORS specification for the category (available upon request) and you must also have the correct items of plant and equipment on site.
It is recommended that delegates have at least 2 years prior experience although, as with anything, experience and ability are subjective.
Successful candidates will be issued with an NPORS card, which is valid for 3 or 5 years.
NPORS Operator Card Renewals
An operator can renew his NPORS card in one of two ways:
- An employer signs a renewal notification form. This signature is to verify that the operator has maintained a good standard on the category and has been accident free during their employment.
- Refresher training to be completed for each group of categories.
We recommend that refresher testing is taken to give you the peace of mind that your operators are still operating to the required standard. It is also an opportunity to iron out any bad habits that they may have picked up over the lifespan of their card.
Please call one of our friendly training advisors on 0844 844 7557 if you have any questions regarding, training, testing or renewals.
